The League of Women Voters (LWV) of United States is a nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit dedicated to empowering everyone to fully participate in American democracy. With active Leagues in all 50 states and over 700 communities, we engage in advocacy, education, litigation, and organizing to protect every American’s freedom to vote.
The League is a tri-level federated membership organization: when individuals join a local League, they automatically become members of their state and the national League as well. Members can join the league at the local, state or national level. LWV is proud to be a women-led organization with over 105 years of history, tracing its roots directly to the women’s suffrage movement in 1920.
The League of Women Voters of Arizona is a nonprofit 501(c)(4) nonpartisan political organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy in Arizona. We influence public policy by educating our members and the public, providing the information and tools needed to encourage informed and active participation in government.
We advocate and lobby for good government laws and policies based on our principles and on public policy positions adopted by members at the national, state, and local League levels. Our nonpartisan policy means we neither support nor oppose any political parties or candidates, but instead take action based on our public policy positions, regardless of which party may support or oppose them.
The League of Women Voters of Arizona (LWVAZ) operates under the auspices of the League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS). Local Leagues operate under the auspices of the state and LWVUS. The LWVAZ provides leadership through its state elected officers and board of directors. LWVAZ provides leadership guidance support to five local leagues – LWV of Central Yavapai County, LWV of Greater Tucson, LWV of Metropolitan Phoenix, LWV of Northwest Maricopa County, LWV of Northern Arizona.
